Older and bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Regular meetings include a light luncheon.

Since its beginning in 2009, as a way for seniors to get together and discuss important topics, the program has grown and spun off additional programs, such as the Bell Choir, the Needlebugs Quilting group and Exerette gentle exercise.

May activities will include: May 7, trip to Penn's Peak for "Branson Fever;" May 14, cancer health talk presented by Donna Litvinas; May 16, Salvation Army annual dinner; May 21, Hawaiian luau.

Soup social

Monthly soup socials are being held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on May 3. The free event is part of Trinity's monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program.

Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.

Tax office

Tamaqua Tax Collector Pam McCullion has added a few hours for her office to be open for taxpayers to take advantage of the discount period. In addition to regular hours, the office will be open from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 30.

The office is located at 6 S. Lehigh St. For more information or directions, call 570-668-6220.

SKIP clean up

The annual Schuylkill Keep It Pretty Spring Clean Up will be held this Saturday. Tamaqua participants will meet at the M and T Bank parking lot at 9 a.m..

Garbage bags, gloves and safety vests will be provided.

SS. Peter and Paul

Rehearsal for First Holy Communion will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 28, in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

First Communion will be celebrated during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on May 4.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 1 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, National Day of Prayer event, noon, Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
