Golden Agers
The June 9 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the club song.
A guest speaker from Diakon, Sue Johns, Pottsville explained the many functions of the organization and spoke about health care.
Names are being taken for the annual picnic to be held Aug. 11 at the No. 9 Museum grounds.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Social Hall.
A guest speaker is scheduled. Dues must be paid in full before attending a meeting.
Summit Hill
New hours for Church on the Rock
Beginning Sunday, July 6, Church on the Rock, located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center at the corner of Hazard and Chestnut streets, will hold services starting at 11 a.m. with fellowship beginning at 10:30 a.m.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Vacation Bible School
Church on the Rock will hold a vacation Bible school from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Aug. 11-15 at "Fennon's Grove," located at the intersection of Andreas Road and Winter Mountain Drive in Andreas.
Children will learn about Jesus, play games, swim, do crafts and make friends.

Guest minister at Meeds UMC
Robert Argot, a guest minister, will speak at Meed's United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning on Sunday June 22.
All members and friends are invited to come out and worship at 11 a.m.

Summit Hill
Flag program
The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program in memory and honor of veterans from Summit Hill.
Throughout the "good weather" months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of the veterans.
Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to be scheduled by contacting Joseph O'Gurek, 570-645-5171.
During the week of June 23, the flag will be flown in memory of the late Chester P. Gieniec. He attained the rank of E4 with the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, having served from 1967-68.
Chester was wounded in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star recipient.
