Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will host Doug Harbach, director of communications of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board when it hosts its breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Zion Seniors

The June meeting of the Zion Seniors is 11 a.m. Thursday. Sandwiches should be brought. Beverages are provided.

Monroe Seniors meet at Zion twice a week, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning at 9 a.m. Programs are varied as are the lunches that are served for minimal cost.

Co-ed volleyball

The co-ed Volleyball League on the Sand Court at Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville, will start Thursday and run through Aug. 14. For more information contact www.weposc.org or call 570-992-9733.

Library movie

The Western Pocono Community Library is offering American Hustle (R) at 1 p.m. in the Community Room this Saturday. For more information, call the library at 570-992-7934.

Free concert

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will host a free concert at 5 p.m. Sunday at Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville, with Christina Lenway (contemporary favorites) and featuring the Lost Ramblers, an acoustic band specializing in old time music. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and bug spray. Call 570-992-9733 for additional information.

Community supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host a Community Sunday Supper from 3 to 4 p.m. June 22.

West End Missions also serves a meal at our Lady Queen of Peace, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

Salad meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the American Legion in Gilbert, beginning with a social hour. Snacks will be all things salad. The club will recognize new scholarship recipients, Kristina Adams and Mackenzie Dorney, at that time.

Final plans will be made for the Patriotic Coloring Contest to be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. June 28 at Chestnuthill Park. This is a free event in conjunction with the West End Park and Open Space Commission. The activities include coloring, crafts, cookies and letters to soldiers. As an added feature, Baltimore Life will offer free photo and finger print identification cards to all children.

Donations for Operation Touch of Home will also be accepted.

West End GOP

The next regular meeting of the West End Republican Club will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Luna Rossa on Route 209. The optional dinner begins at 6 p.m.

Alzheimer's program

Robin Watson will present the Facts, Figures, and Resources of Alzheimer's at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, June 25.

Dual event

On Wednesday, June 25, Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold a dual event. The Senior Lunch will be served and the Youth Group's two components, the Teens of Peace and the Living 4:12 (seventh- and eighth-graders) will wash the cars of the seniors.

Garden of Giving

The Garden of Giving reports that all beds are planted and this years' organic bounty will include garlic, peppers, eggplant, basil, parsley, onions, raspberries and blueberries to help nourish the less fortunate Monroe County neighbors in need.

The garden is a great place for Scouting, youth and church groups to learn and have fun while giving to their community. The garden also welcomes team leaders with gardening knowledge to guide the groups.

The organization is always in need of chicken feed, volunteers to help with the chickens, in the office, on the website, in the garden, on the board and at fund-raising events.

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will host the 19th Annual Art in the Park Show & Sale along with a free concert featuring Riverside Rhythm Swing Band and Adam Jacob beginning at noon on Sunday, July 27 at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.
