Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Barnesville, with 46 members in attendance. Two new members, Cindy Godanis and Margaret Miller were welcomed to the group.
The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld and included an election of officers.
Schmerfeld will remain as president, while Nancy Godanis was elected vice-president, Ruth Ann Fenne as secretary and Shirley Becker as treasurer.
Birthday greetings were offered to Joan Brown, Penny Schlorf, Melanie Weicker, Thelma Carvello, Faye Sweeney, Joe DeJoseph, Cindy Godanis, Lorraine Lupche and Bill Morrison.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company, although the June 24 meeting has been canceled. The next regular meeting will be held on July 8 at 1 p.m.
The annual picnic will be held on July 22 and the group will travel to the Bloomsburg Fair on Sept. 22.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
Board of Health
The June meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with James Gormley, Shirley Becker, Earl Boettger and Josh Esposito, code enforcement officer, in attendance.
Esposito reportedly issued four licenses, at the South Ward Playground, Turkey Hill Minute Mart, BPO Elks Lodge and Impressions, Inc. That brings the total number of licenses issued so far this year to 57.
Five applicants failed the health inspection, two applications have not been returned and one seasonal vendor has to be scheduled for an inspection.
The code enforcement office received a number of complaints during May, including 22 for trash; eight animal waste; and two leaking sewers. Four buildings have been condemned as unfit for human habitation.
There were no cases of reportable diseases during the last month.
The board meets at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.
Zion Lewistown
The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also this Sunday, the youth group will meet at 5 p.m.
