Offer incentives for businesses

Published June 14. 2014 09:00AM

Dear Editor,

A couple of weeks ago, I read a letter stating that Lansford was going downhill. I'd like to say that I agree. I've written my representative and asked that he try to get a bill passed (to copy New York). Make the Panther Valley a tax-free area to any company that comes here and stays and grows its business and employee residents. They have to stay for 10 years. Also, for any business that exists now, if it grows and puts residents to work, these will be tax-free for 10 years.

Let's face it. If Lansford goes, what's next? Nesquehoning? Summit Hill? Coaldale?

Before you know it, a whole district could be gone. Now they are talking about raising the tax in this district. There are more empty storefronts and empty lots than there should be. What ever happened to getting rid of the property tax and the school tax? Maybe they just want people to start moving out of the area. People can't keep getting hit with taxes.
