Get traffic to slow down
Dear Editor,
In regards to the speed limit on Route 209 from Lansford to Nesquehoning being 55 mph, just recently a truck blew a tire going this speed limit. Thank God nobody was hurt or died in this incident. About two years ago I talked to Commissioner Thomas Gerhard, and he told me he would contact the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation about this speed limit.
The day of this truck crash, I happened to be riding my motorcycle on this road and just missed this accident. I also traveled from Nesquehoning to Lansford with nobody following me. When you are traveling from Lansford to Nesquehoning, there are no warning signs posted on either side of the Panther Valley High School complex letting the people know that the school speed limit is 15 mph in the school zone on school days. And from people traveling on this road from out of the area, there is a big decrease in speed from 55 mph to 15 mph. There are also people exiting the complex at any time of day or night.
PennDOT changed the speed limit on East White Bear Drive between Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe from 55 mph to 45 mph. There are also people going over the speed limit in this area.
