A 'Chair-ity' event
The Penn Kidder Campus of the Jim Thorpe Area School District was abuzz Saturday morning with the annual science fair and art show.
One of the highlights of the art show was a group of five chairs decorated and donated by the eighth-grade art class to the "Chair-ity Fundraising Event," which is sponsored by the Penn Kidder Library Center.
The fundraiser, an auction, which will take place in July, features a wide variety of chairs decorated by local artists, signed by sports teams or donated by businesses.
"We are hoping to have 25 to 30 chairs," said Friends of Penn Kidder Library Center President Barbara Franzosa.
"Some of them will be on display over the next few weeks at the library store (the old Carrigan's Pharmacy in Pine Point Plaza), the library and the Mauch Chunk Bank, also at the plaza.
In addition to the five chairs donated by the school, the library has already received an autographed folding chair from the Pittsburgh Steelers and a lawn chair from Yuengling Brewery.
Anyone interested in bidding on a chair should plan on attending the auction at 6 p.m. July 1 at Boulder View Tavern in Lake Harmony.
