Busy week

Effort UMC's United Methodist Women are busy preparing for the group's annual picnic on Aug. 12. The are also helping at Vacation Bible School and with the preparation of the school supply distribution on Saturday and the food pantry on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Monroe seniors

This group of Senior Citizens continues to meet at 9 a.m., Wednesdays and Fridays, with a variety of activities and luncheon meals. Those planning to attend should contact the site manager ahead of time.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Park commission

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Ross Township Municipal Building in Saylorsburg.

Chestnuthill anniversary

The 250th Anniversary Committee for Chestnuthill Township is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Special guest

The Western Pocono Lioness Club welcomed one of its scholarship winners at the club's last meeting, Robert Facella. He shared his plans with the group, including his hope to become a surgeon. The Lioness also found out that Robert was one of the Boy Scouts who worked on making a sandwich board for the club, which is used to advertise events.

At the club's next meeting, Aug. 27, the focus will be a minifashion show, courtesy of Dress Barn, giving a peak into the Sept. 29 fashion show the club is hosting.

In addition, the two young people the club sponsored to attend the Monroe County Conservation Camp, Nina Giambalvo and Rosanna Ponce, will speak of their experiences at that camp.

Fairview Seniors

A guest speaker will be part of the day when the Fairview Seniors meet on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building.

Fairview Seniors will hear from a speaker from the American Red Cross.

Wednesday drive

The Western Pocono Community Library is the site for a mobile unit blood drive this Wednesday, from noon to 6 p.m.

There are urgent needs for O-negative, O-positive, and A-negative donations as well as platelets. To make an appointment, call 1-800-223-6667.

Afternoon movie

"Oz the Great and Powerful" will be shown at the Western Pocono Community Library at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9. For more information call the library at (570) 992-7934.
