Adult day care
The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a number of activities planned for the month of August, including a special breakfast on Aug. 5.
Other special days next month include: Aug. 2, bulletin board and foot doctor visit; Aug. 7, cooking class; Aug. 13, Sam and Susie Skits; Aug. 19, Corkboard Coasters; Aug. 21, Salvation Army service; Aug. 22, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Aug. 23, Polish Day at Holy Family; Aug. 26, luau; Aug. 27, craft day.
In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hair styling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.
Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, motivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

CYO volleyball
Registrations are now being accepted for the 2013-2014 St. Jerome's Regional School CYO volleyball team. The team is open to girls in grades 4-8 who attend St. Jerome's School or CCD classes.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school is held at 9:15 a.m., at the church.
Also on Sunday, the Christian education commission will meet at 11:45 a.m. at the YMCA and the monthly worship service at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise will be held at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Playground Pals at 11:30 a.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, Waterside Whistle Stop at 2:30 p.m. at the Bungalow, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday School will be held at 10:15 a.m.
The prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m. next Thursday. Also next Thursday, the worship and music committee will meet at 6 p.m.
Summer concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the seventh year of its free Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held, from 6-8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.
The next concert will be held Aug. 2 and will feature YMI A Duo. Upcoming events include: Aug. 15, Todd Wolfe Band; Aug. 30, Jay Smar; and Sept. 13, Large Flower Heads.

Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met July 24 at the Masonic Lodge in Hometown, with 75 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading.
Reports were presented by the vice president and the secretary. A sign up sheet was available for the Aug. 15 picnic.
June and July birthdays will be celebrated at the Aug. 1 meeting.
The meeting concluded with cards and social games.
The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.
