The memorial stage denied. Why?

Published August 10. 2013 09:02AM

Letter to the Editor,

Mr. Rick Johnson, who along with others, planned, designed and built the structures at Mauch Chunk Lake which makes it today one of the most beautiful lakes around, was denied by the Carbon County commissioners to have a stage built in his memory.

Initially approval was given by the commissioners to the Johnson family. They were to bring specifications on the stage back to the commissioners. They did this and they were denied.

Ricky was instrumental in the location of this stage and the annual heritage festival each year at the lake.

After reading the article in the Times News a week ago, I was disappointed along with others including the Johnson family, that the Carbon County commissioners did not approve of the stage memorial for Rick and family without any valid reason. It would not have cost anything to the County.

I wonder if it was another family wanting to build a stage, would they be given the same runaround, and I don't think it is an issue of liability either.

Sincerely,

Larry Consoli
