Operation: Touch of Home
St. Matthew's UCC's October benevolence is Operation: Touch of Home, a local organization that sends care packages to our armed forces serving overseas. All are sent to local men and women serving. If you would like to donate items, anything from pens, playing cards, CDs, batteries, non-perishable food items, packaged drink mixes and more, you can bring them to the church during office hours Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or Sunday mornings from 8-11:30 a.m. For a more complete list you can go to its website at www.operationtouchofhome.org. The items will be packaged the first week in November to be sent to our service men and women for Christmas.
Chestnut Ridge Seniors
The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co. They will be celebrating Columbus Day. Bring a bag lunch. There will be a Chinese auction so bring items for it.
Halloween parade
Be sure to register for the Eldred Township Halloween Parade to be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. The registration deadline is Sunday, Oct. 13. Anyone may walk in the parade but only those registered will have their costumes judged and be guaranteed treats. There are three cash prizes for each category which are Most Original, Cutest, Ugliest, Best Pair, Best Group and Best Float.
You can pick up registration forms at the Eldred Township municipal building, the Kunkletown Post Office and the Kunkletown General Store.

Trunk or Treat
St. Matthew's UCC will host a Trunk or Treat on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 3-5 p.m. It is open to the community. There will be decorated car trunks with free treats for the children. There will also be face painting, a pumpkin craft, cupcake decorating and a chance to win a real carved pumpkin by artist David Dion, who will also demonstrate how he carves a pumpkin.

Exercising seniors
There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10 a.m.
