Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Sept. 26 with 65 members in attendance. Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business session. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "Anonymous."
A moment of silence was observed in honor of Mary Draper and Carol Yanalavage, recently deceased members.
Margaret "Peg" Zeird was added to the sick list and Pearl Davies was welcomed back to the group.
The Oct. 3 meeting will include the celebration of August and September birthdays.
The meeting concluded with cards and social games.
The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.
Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Sept. 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 51 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation.
Two new members, Joan Brown and Pat Stephens, were welcomed to the group.
Birthday greetings were extended to Roger Walck. Shirley Becker offered her report and provided several inspirational readings. Members were reminded of an upcoming trip to Penn's Peak and the December Christmas party.
Bingo and cards followed the business meeting.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
SS. Peter and Paul
First Friday will be observed this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of parishioners in the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls will be made to those areas on Thursday morning.
Oct. 5 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.
The parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on Oct. 6 and receive Holy Communion as a group. Society members will participate in a recitation of the Rosary before Mass.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m., at the church.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Good News Club meets at 3:15 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.
