American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26. Donations types needed are double red cells and blood.

Board of education
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, in the administrative office building in Brodheadsville.
Driver Safety class
A four-hour AARP Driver Safety Class, refresher course version, is being offered this Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Chestnuthill Park Building, from 1-5 p.m.
Those planning to attend must contact volunteer instructor Roland Vonderheide at (570) 619-4006 to check on class openings and details to be able to participate. The one-day, four-hour class is open only to those who provide evidence of taking the eight-hour class during the past 36 months.
Leadership position
New officers were chosen for the council at Our Lady Queen of Peace. Serving are Ralph Manento, president; Allen Krueger, vice president; and Linda Carbone, continuing as secretary.
There are nine more council members, including ex-officio members the Rev. Sean Carpenter, Deacon Bob O'Connor and Dori Hurley.
World Lions Day
Western Pocono Lions and Lioness will once again work together to make World Lions Day Saturday, Oct. 12, a special day for residents at several nursing and personal care homes in the West End.
Members will drive seniors through the countryside to view the fall foliage, bake cookies and share conversation with the residents in a yearly service project begun over 35 years ago by Lion Christopher Sweeney.
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat in the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville, will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.
Groups, businesses and families are invited to join the festivities to make this a safe place for kids to enjoy the holiday.
A registration form must be completed to reserve one's spot.
There will be Costume Contest for the Trick or Treaters and prizes for Most Original Displays.

World Community Day
Church Women United of Monroe invites everyone to celebrate World Community Day, beginning at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1. The host church is Our Lady of Victory, Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville. The service will be held in the church hall, followed by a light lunch. For more information call (570) 629-0649.
Pink Light Walk
The annual West End Pink Light walk will be held Oct. 9. More information will be forthcoming.
