Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group has a number of activities planned for October. Upcoming activities will include: Oct. 2, a guest speaker from the Alzheimer's Association and interactive games; Oct. 9, program will feature a Summer in Taipei, Taiwan, bell practice and chair stretching; Oct. 15, bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. for the Diakon Senior Expo at the Fairlane Village Mall; Oct. 23, trip to Penn's Peak for a Neil Diamond tribute; Oct. 30, Halloween celebration with pot luck lunch.

The Older and Bolder group's regular sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. The regular meetings include a light lunch.

Diabetes support

St. Luke's University Health Network is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Group. Monthly meetings are held in the Miner's Cafe at the health network's Miners Hospital Campus in Coaldale.

Each month, a different diabetes relevant topic is explored. Topics are based on ways to improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Meetings are generally 45 minutes long and include a question and answer period.

This month's meeting will be held on Oct. 15. Reservations are not required. For more information, call (570) 645-8107.

Fitness program

A free exerette fitness program, designed for the young at heart, is offered at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., every Tuesday and Thursday. The sessions will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. and will feature gentle exercises designed to enhance posture, improve balance and increase flexibility.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Next week's activities include: Thursday, Angel Choir meets at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir rehearses at 6:30 pm. and Chancel Choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

SS. Peter and Paul

First Friday will be observed next week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of parishioners in the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls will be made to those areas on Thursday morning.

Oct. 5 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.

The parish rosary Society will attend 8 a.m. Mass on Oct. 6 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A recitation of the rosary will be held before Mass.

The Father Henry Baker Council Knights of Columbus will sponsor a "Living Rosary" at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. It will be held at the council hall, 200 Miner St., Coaldale. The public is welcome.

Class of 1948

A reunion article for the Tamaqua High School Class of 1948, published in Thursday's newspaper, contained an error in regard to the reunion committee secretary. Shirley Phillips Becker serves as the committee secretary. Benediction at the reunion was provided by the Rev. John Patterson.
