Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will welcome Jessica Alexandre, Riley and Company, on Thursday, Sept. 19. She will present information on the Stroudsburg Rotary Club Hurricane Sandy Project. The club meets at 7:30 Thursday mornings at the Western Pocono Community Library.

Zion Senior Citizens

Zion United Lutheran Church's Zion Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.

Senior Fellowship

St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, will hold its Senior Fellowship at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19.

Women's Ministry event

Bold Faith! A Tapestry women's ministry will be held at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, 1 Warren Lane, at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23. The speaker will be Robin Bank. Child-care is available upon request.

Lioness program

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will welcome guest speaker Kathleen E. Kuck, president and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center at its next meeting. The covered dish meeting begins at 6 p.m., Sept. 24 at the American Legion, Gilbert, for a social time. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Pet blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold a pet blessing at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, by the statue of Jesus in front of the church. Pets must be leashed, in carriers, or otherwise under the owner's control.

Grief Share Support Group

A new Grief Support group is now forming at Effort UMC for the fall/winter sessions. This is a 13-week program that will be held on Sunday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. in the Church Counseling Room starting Oct. 6. Workbooks are provided.

International awards

Pleasant Valley High School Leo Club has received two International Lions Clubs awards, which were presented by Western Pocono Lions Club Interim President Charles Rush at the recent Leo Club meeting.

The awards are a banner patch in recognition of the club's participation in the International Leo Club Service Project-Spotlight on Children (helping children in adverse circumstances).

The second award was for the Leos meeting the criteria established for the Leo-Lion Serving Together Banner Patch Award. This award has been authorized by the International board of directors to recognize successful completion of joint projects and other types of activities that support Leo-Lion collaboration.

Soup sought

Effort UMC's Supplemental Family Resource Center is in need of soup to feed hungry families that come there for help. Donations of canned soup are being sought from church members and friends of the congregation.

Soup may be brought to the pots setting in the narthex on Sunday, or one can call the church at (570) 629-1890 during office hours to ask about suitable drop-off times.

Flu clinic

A flu clinic will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Chestnuthill Senior Center, Brodheadsville. If one has Medicare Part B, there is no charge for the vaccination. If one has a different insurance, one may be able to send in the receipt for reimbursement. And, if one is in the high risk category, does not have insurance and cannot afford to pay, one may be eligible for a Free Vaccine Voucher.
