Food fundraiser
The Body Shop Training Center in Brodheadsville is offering people the opportunity to try a class in exchange for a nonperishable food item to benefit Effort United Methodist Church's food pantry. The event will take place at 120 Shafer Lane, Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday.
A healthy recipes, body fat analysis will take place at 10 a.m.
For more information or to find out when a class is being offered, call 570-992-3020. Class sizes are limited and are only for those 13 1/2 years old or older.
Volunteers sought
The West End Volunteer Fire Company expresses its thanks to all who supported the company during the year. At this time more volunteers members in firefighting and vehicle rescue are needed, as well as associate members and help for the kitchen ladies.
To be a member one must live in Chestnuthill Township.
Contact the fire company at 570-992-4121 or come to the firehouse Tuesday evenings, at 7 p.m.
Historical society
Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will meet at 7 o'clock this evening at Chestnuthill Township Park Building on Route 715.
Bible study group
Help for Daily Living Bible Study Group meets every Tuesday between 6-7 p.m. and on the second and fourth Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the community room at Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville.
The goal of the group to help individuals seeking a deeper understanding of the Bible and to show how it relates to daily living. Studies are relational rather than teaching the doctrines of any particular denomination, and are open to Christians or those of other faiths or those with no faith at all. Leaders strive to make everyone feel comfortable irrespective of the level of their knowledge of the Bible.

Zion Seniors
The Senior Citizens group at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The Monroe Seniors group, which also meets at Zion, meets every Wednesday and Friday beginning at 9 a.m.
PVHS showtime
The Pleasant Valley High School drama production, "Pride and Prejudice" will take place this weekend at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
New officers
Effort United Methodist Church's United Methodist Women has elected new officers. They are: Dee Juris, president; Rosalie Juris, vice president; Nita Nydam, treasurer; and Jan Decker, secretary.
Cards to Troops
Boy Scout Troop 98 has begun its project of sending Fan Mail Cards, signing greeting cards which an organization mails to the troops on the troop's behalf. Last year the troop delivered nearly 4,000 cards.
In October the troop held a Court of Honor and approximately 25 scouts earned some 125 merit badges and over a half dozen Scouts received rank advancements.
Upcoming is an Eagle Court of Honor on Nov. 23 for Andrew Atherton, Troop 98's 98th Eagle Scout; and another Eagle Court of Honor, on Nov. 24, will be held for Dayne Coleman, Troop 98's 100th Eagle Scout, with special presentations to be made.
Thanksgiving events
Our Lady Queen of Peace will host its community meal for Thanksgiving from 3-4 p.m. Sunday. Participants are requested to call the office at 610-681-6137 to register.
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will host a Thanksgiving service at 3 p.m. Sunday at Salem UCC in Gilbert.
Canned goods, ham or turkeys for the PVEN, or even a monetary donation will be appreciated, with all received gifts going to the PVEN, to be distributed to clients on or around the normal PVEN Thanksgiving distribution.
The Effort United Methodist Church will host its 7th Community Thanksgiving Feast. It is available to those who could use some fellowship to share the holiday or may not quite be able to provide a full feast for their loved ones. Fellowship Hour with light hors d'oeuvres will be served at 2 p.m., followed by opening prayer, dinner, dessert. Call the church office at 570-629-1890 for more information. Reservations are not required but appreciated.
Pleasant Valley Community Outreach offers a free meal, from 4:30-6 p.m. each Monday to those who enjoys sharing fellowship and a hot meal with others. The church is located at 1086 Weir Lake Road, in Brodheadsville. The next meal will be on Monday, Nov. 25 as they celebrate Thanksgiving with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. They will also be providing clothing to those in need. If you would like to help or need more information call 570-992-6799.
Double events
Zion Lutheran's Walking Group will walk at the Western Pocono Community Library at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26.
The Knit and Crochet Group from Zion will meet that afternoon at 1 p.m. at the church.
Library closed for holiday
Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will close at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. It will be reopen on Friday, Nov. 29 at 9 a.m.
Mass offered
Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Thursday, Nov. 28. The church office will be closed. There are no religious education classes Nov. 30, and Dec. 1, 2 and 3.
