Performs in chorus
Madison Sterner, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Kershner of the Tamaqua area and the late Walter Sterner, will be performing in the All Eastern Honors Mixed Chorus at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford, Conn. The daughter of Timothy and Lisa Sterner of Lancaster sings Alto 2 and is a junior student at Hempfield High School. A third year member of the Hempfield Singers, she is also a member of the Hempfield Chamber Singers and is concert mistress of Symphony Strings.
Sterner also plays the violin and french horn and has earned top five placements for the past three Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association County Chorus festivals and for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District and Regional Chorus festivals. Last year, she was selected to represent Hempfield as an alto 2 in the PMEA All State Chorus, earning her the chance to compete for selection to the NAfME All East Mixed Chorus this year.
The 2013 NAfME All Eastern Honors Ensemble is composed of more than 780 talented high school students from throughout the eastern region of the United States. The mixed chorus will include approximately 350 vocalists, who will spend three days at the conference, culminating in a public performance on April 7.
