Local scholarship
The Western Pocono Women's Club will be awarding its annual $500 Jacqueline Sue Coleman Memorial Scholarship and a $500 Western Pocono Women's Club Scholarship again this year. All students in the Pleasant Valley School District who plan to attend college in the fall may apply.
Applications are available on the WPWC website at www.westernpoconowomensclub.org or at the Pleasant Valley School District website, www.pvbears.org. Applications must be received by the guidance office no later than April 23 to be considered.
Dictionary distribution
West End Rotary Club will visit Pleasant Valley elementary schools and present dictionaries to students. The schedule includes a visit from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at Polk Elementary and another, from 10:45-11:45 a.m., at Pleasant Valley Elementary.
Blessed Beginnings
The preschool at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Blessed Beginnings, is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, as part of celebrating Catholic Schools Week.
Families are invited to meet the teachers and staff, tour the class and take a look at the curriculum.
Zion's service
Due to the 150th annual congregational meeting on Sunday, Jan. 27, Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will only have a 10 a.m. worship service. The meeting will be held after the service.
Sunday School classes will meet at 9 a.m.
Hike reminder
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a winter hike with naturalist Don Miller on Sunday, Jan. 27. Participants should be at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville at 1 p.m. The focus will be the newly established trail at the West End Regional Park. The hike features level terrain, both on and off trail, and is appropriate for all ages, and families are welcome.
Camp offered
Families of 12- to 14-year-olds are reminded that the weeklong Camp Cadet registrations are now being accepted. The camp is run by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Applications must be received by March 31.
PVEN needs
Due to an increased number of families needing help, PVEN is requesting donations of disposable baby diapers of all sizes.
The donations may be brought to a participating network church or to the PVEN building in McIlhaney on Tuesday mornings, when the Community Service Center is open.
LL sign-ups
The West End Little League baseball/softball registration for youngsters ages 4-16, who live in Chestnuthill, Eldred, Polk and Ross townships is now under way.
Sign up at Pleasant Valley High School from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 in the new auditorium, or from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, in the old PV auditorium.

CWU meeting
A business meeting for Church Women United of Monroe County will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg, in the church library. Participants are asked to use the back entrance.
