Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Jan. 24, at the Masonic Lodge in Hometown, with 56 members in attendance. Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and provided her report.
Secretary Joan Anne Garber provided the invocation, titled "While Still Day." Reports were offered by the secretary and treasurer Antoinette Triano. Eleanor Arner, Janet Lakitsky, Marie Williams and Marge Skymba were added to the sick list. Members were reminded to bring brown bag lunches for the remainder of January as well as the February meetings.
The meeting concluded with cards and social games.
The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.
Tamaqua softball
The Tamaqua Area Girls Youth Softball Association has released the registration dates for the 2013 season. Registration is open to girls between the ages of 5 and 16 who reside within the Tamaqua area. Teams will be split into age groups: 5-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-16.
Registrations will be held Feb. 9 and Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Tamaqua Elementary School; and Feb. 23 and Feb. 24, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery and primary church are offered during the later service. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Drama growth group begins a new session at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Homes of Honor parenting sessions begins at 7 p.m. at the Tamaqua Arts Center; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare session begins at 7 p.m.; Thursday, men's fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m., coffee shop theology growth group sessions begin at 7 p.m.
Musician practice is held Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., followed by praise practice at 9:30 a.m.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion and a children's message, offered by Marge Kropp.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.; Thursday, trustees meet at 6 p.m., administrative council meets at 7 p.m.
