Street sweeping
The Borough of Tamaqua will resume weekly street sweeping operations during the week of April 8. Several streets in the downtown area are permanently posted for Thursday and Friday street cleaning operations. These streets include Broad, Berwick, Center, Pine, Railroad, Nescopec and Swatara streets, which will be cleaned on April 11 and April 12, beginning at 7 a.m.
Additional streets will be posted, advertised and cleaned periodically.
Streets will be posted the day before cleaning operations are scheduled. All vehicles must be removed from posted streets. Any vehicle remaining on the street will be ticketed and possibly towed.
Property owners and residents are welcome to clean their sidewalks before street sweeping occurs. The schedule is subject to change due to work and weather conditions.

Open mic
The Tamaqua Community Arts Center will present an Open Mic Night from 6-9 p.m. today at 125 Pine St. A console and baby grand piano will be available for use.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for registration. Performances will begin at 6 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.

First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Easter Sunday in First United Methodist Church. A children's message will be presented by Marge Kropp. Children's Sunday school will meet following the children's message. Adult Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.; Thursday, trustees meet at 6 p.m., administrative council meets at 7 p.m.
Calvary Methodist
The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a Community Sunrise Easter service will be held at 6:45 a.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua.
An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
Zion Lewistown
A Community Easter Sunrise service will be held at 6:45 a.m. this Sunday at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle. The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. church service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
