After 14 years in the Lehighton borough, Xandria Ahner will open the doors to the Seventh Moon Spa for a client appreciation day.

Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., customers and newcomers alike will be able to receive swag bags filled with Aveda hair and skin care samples, chair massages, refreshments and a tour around the newly expanded spa.

“People have heard the name but ask what it is we do here. We want people to come and experience a little taste of what we have to offer,” Ahner said.

Massage has grown in popularity over the past decade with the benefits being numerous including reducing stress hormone levels, boosting immunity, reducing pain and boosting mood, to name a few.

“While people’s first though of a spa visit may be for a massage, we offer a lot of services from body work to manicures, pedicures, facials, haircuts, acupuncture and yoga,” she said.

According to the owner, the spa handles close to 200 clients a week, including private bridal showers and workshops in the renovated studio space.

A member of the associated massage and Bodywork Professionals since the beginning of here career, Ahner says the key to her success is working to create a calm environment and stresses the importance of client inclusiveness.

Ahner said she has often heard people with self-conscious body issues shy away from wellness services.

“There is no judgment here,” she said.

Ahner has been a certified massage practitioner since 1993 and stresses the importance of self-care for everyone. After having had major spine fusion surgery, the longtime practitioner has had to put her healing hands on hold and focus on her own heath.

“With my back injuries I have limited ability to fully practice. It’s been hard to go from the healing or giving end for over 20 years to now being the one on the massage table,” she said.

“It’s interesting because one thing I really feel makes a huge difference is yoga and stretching,” she said.

The spa has used its newly constructed studio space to host a variety of classes including a Saturday morning stretch. Expanding the services has given Ahner a chance to get back on the healing horse by thinking outside the typical massage box by providing additional wellness services.

“It’s redirected me in a different avenue. I love change so I’m always growing and expanding.”

The hair and nail salon had been folded in a few years ago with the most recent studio and lounge space being created in 2015.

“It’s really a lot of fun, we are constantly evolving by listening to what clients want. That’s always been a driving force for me.”

The staff of more than 17 certified massage practitioners and salon workers are the foundation of the wellness center, Ahner said.

“The Seventh Moon wouldn’t exist without the awesome staff. The staff are really artists in their own crafts here,” she said.

In February The Seventh Moon became an Aveda Concept Salon and Spa. Ahner is anxious to share the new exclusive products with future clients.

The spa owner said becoming a concept spa means the salon will work only with Aveda products.

“We get support and ongoing education from them. They’re global and they source globally and ethically,” she said.

Ahner says in addition to using only pure plant and flower essences, Aveda works closely with clean water initiatives.

“In the back of my mind, partnering with them has been a goal because we are committed to the same things.”

In April the spa will host a number of fundraisers and raffles in celebration of Earth Month, with all the funds raised being donated to Aveda’s clean water initiatives.

“Our philosophy is in direct alignment with Aveda’s. It’s about providing the spa guest with an amazing service with superior products that are made with the global environment in mind,” she said.
