Veterans help

A representative from the Disabled American Veterans will be available once a month at Tamaqua Borough Hall to offer free veterans claim service for veterans as well as widows and dependent children of veterans. Information and assistance will be provided for service-connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service-connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.

The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St., on May 13, June 10 and July 8.

The DAV is committed to better lives for all veterans and their families.

Electronic recycling

Due to new regulations, residents of Tamaqua are no longer able to place old electronic devices out for curbside pick up on trash day. To alleviate the hardship this has caused, Advanced Green Solutions Inc. will hold a free electronic recycling event from 8 a.m. until noon on May 18 at the Tamaqua Transfer Station, 20 Sewer Plant Road, Tamaqua.

Items to be collected and recycled include: televisions, telephones, cell phones, keyboards, cables, cords, CRT monitors, copiers, printers, fax machines, stereos, speakers, DVD players, VCRs, video game systems, LCD monitors, word processors, hard drives, desktop/laptop computers and other miscellaneous electronics equipment.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

The consistory will meet at 7 p.m. on May 16.

Older and Bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets every Wednesday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Meetings include a light luncheon.
