Purpose Driven Women
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church hosts a Purpose Driven Women's meeting Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. It is a women's Bible study which includes: fun, laughter, and fellowship as participants learn to apply God's word in their lives.
District visitor
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet on Wednesday at The Old Mill Pizza on Route 209 in Sciota today at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be a representative from District 14-U Global Membership Team.
West End Rotary
It is the monthly business meeting for the West End Rotary Club at its weekly 7:30 a.m., Thursday, May 23, meeting.
Chorus concert
The Pleasant Valley High School Chorus Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 23.
PV Board meets
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 23, in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Memorial Day ceremony
Members of the West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 invite members of the community to come to the post site on Route 209 on Memorial Day, May 27, for a service to honor all fallen soldiers of wars past and present at 11 a.m.
Refreshments will be served after the service.
The Legion's Adjutant Lehy Kirchner also serves as the chairman of Monroe County Veterans Association. He reminds folks that there will be a countywide Memorial Day ceremony at Courthouse Square in Stroudsburg at noon, sponsored by the Monroe County Veterans Association, with special speakers, music and a wreath laying.
Republican Club
The West End Republican Club will meet Tuesday, May 28, at the Luna Rossa in Gilbert. The speaker will be Michael T. Horne, Ph.D. He is the project leader for the Wallkill River, Cherry Valley, and Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuges.
Dinner is at 6 p.m.; the formal meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Monroe Seniors
The Monroe Seniors group meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, May 24, as well as on Wednesday, May 29, and Friday, May 31.
Preschool graduation
Effort UMC will hold its preschool graduation on Friday, May 24.
Entities closed
All Pleasant Valley schools will be closed Monday, May 27, in honor of Memorial Day.
The Western Pocono Community Library will also be closed.
Also closed is Zion Lutheran Church's office.
Mass of Remembrance
Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold a Mass of Remembrance at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 28.
Brodheadsville blood drive
The Western Pocono Community Library will host a Miller-Keystone blood drive from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 29. To register call Deb Otto at (610) 691-5850, ext. 1227. Walk-ins are welcome.
Effort blood drive
Effort UMC will host a Red Cross blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 30.
Driver safety class
The Chestnuthill Township Park Building will once again be the site for a four-hour classroom refresher/defensive driving course being taught by an AARP volunteer.
That course is being offered on Saturday, June 15, beginning at 1 p.m.
Participants must have proof of having taken the 8-hour course within the past 36 months.
