Blood drive today

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive today from noon to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

PVEN board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

Band parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school.

Chorus concert

The Pleasant Valley Middle School chorus program will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Students to train

Some PVHS students have agreed to be AWSOM Animal Shelter volunteers and are scheduled for training after school Friday. Those who accomplish the training can volunteer on their own time at the shelter.

Testing scheduled

SAT testing will be held at Pleasant Valley High School from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 4.

Mother's Day Craft

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will host a free Mother's Day Craft event from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday at the VanBuskirk/Haney Park, Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. Participants can decorate a flower pot, fill with potting soil and plant to take home for Mom. Call (570) 992-9733 or go to www.weposc.org for more info.

WPCL Bike Safety program

The Western Pocono Community Library will host a Bicycle Safety program on Saturday, May 4 at 12 p.m. This program is open to all ages and will be followed by a bike ride around the property. Please bring your bike and helmet. For more information please contact the library at 570-992-7934. The library is located on Pilgrim's Way, off Rt. 115, across from the Pleasant Valley Middle School.

Free Safety Fair

GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club is co-sponsoring its second annual free Child Safety Fair with the West End Park and Open Space Commission, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Chestnuthill Township Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville. Families are invited to have the PA State Police fingerprint their children.

West End Ambulance and West End Fire Company will be present for tours of their vehicles and trucks. A Fire Safety House or simulated Smoke House from Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire.

Pocono Medical Center will have representatives to check blood pressure, inspect infant car seats, provide Trauma and Safety Education Awareness, and share other information. Safe/Healthy Snacks for Kids is new this year and will be shared by Lindsay Vaughn, dietitian from the Kinsley's ShopRite store. Boy Scout Troop 98 will also be there.

Free information regarding car seats, school bus safety, etc. will be available inside the park building during the fair.

May Friendship Day

Church Women United of Monroe County will hold May Friendship Day on Saturday beginning 1 p.m. The host church is Zion United Church of Christ, 14 N. 8th St., Stroudsburg. A light lunch will be served, followed by the service. For more information call, (570) 629-0649 or (570) 426-1887.

School visitation

Eighth-grade visits to Pleasant Valley High School are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, May 6-7.

Move-up Night

Pleasant Valley Middle School seventh-grade move-up night is slated for 7 p.m., Monday, May 6.

Band concert

Pleasant Valley High School Band Concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 6.

Life Line screening

Effort United Methodist is hosting a Life Line Screening on Wednesday, May 8. For more information call the church at (570) 629-1890.

Morning meeting

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PAC/PTO will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 8.

BP screening

Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will host free blood pressure screenings for seniors from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, May 8. A heat wave program will be presented at the center at 1 p.m., May 8.

Arts swards

Pleasant Valley High School Performing and Visual Arts awards will be presented at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 8.

Special speaker

Brother Bernard will present a program in the Chapel at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7. He has spent several decades practicing Chinese medicine and visiting China for training and to share life with people who find the Sacred through Asian religions.

Seeing health care as an integral part of the Gospel, he offers his natural and Chinese medical skills, as well as clinical psychology and behavioral medicine, to people there. This Catholic Christian monk finds a deep bond with fellow monastics of other traditions that he encounters in Asia.
