Special recognition

Marv Aylsworth, a member of the Effort Lions Club, was recognized for 35 years of membership when Lions District 14U District Governor Angie Mims visited recently. She presented him with his 2012 35-year certificate and his 35-year chevron he can wear with his Lions pin.

Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will welcome Monroe County Controller Marlo Merhige at its Thursday, April 11, breakfast meeting. Merhige will speak about what a controller does.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 11, in the district office in Brodheadsville.

Effort UMC Ministry

Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort United Methodist Church serves folks going through emergency or other short term situations and who are not eligible for local, county or state programs. That help is limited to an 8-week duration per family.

This ministry is an outreach serving the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville.

A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required. The hours of distribution have changed to the second and fourth Saturday of the month.

The SFRC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 13 and 27. The church is located on Merwinsburg Road.

Effort UMC will also host the District Conference for Pastors and Lay Leaders on Sunday, April 14, beginning at 3 p.m. The UMW will be hosting and preparing finger foods.

Greyhound group meets

Pocono Greyhound Adoption will be holding a Meet & Greet at Tractor Supply on Route 209, Brodheadsville, Saturday, April 13, from noon to 3 p.m. Visit www.poconogreyhound.com, or phone (570) 856-0377 for additional information.

Women's Club meets

The April meeting of the Western Pocono Women's Club will take place at 7 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Effort Methodist Church, Effort. The guest speaker will be Brian Hardiman who will share information about: Wildlife in Your Backyard.

Diversity Task Force

The next meeting of the Pleasant Valley School District Diversity Task Force is set for 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, in the district office.

PVHS PAC meets

The Pleasant Valley High School PAC will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 17.

Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at the Old Mill Pizza in Sciota Wednesday, April 17. Social time is 6:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Attendees can order from the menu. The speaker will be Mimi Mikels, executive director, Monroe County Meals on Wheels.

The club is looking forward to its third annual bowl-a-thon. Anyone needing information can contact Lion Fred Klein at (610) 760-1127.
