Memories of the Mahoning Drive In
Dear Editor:
I have had a rush of memories flood back to me this week, thinking about the Mahoning Drive In. And the memories are great ones especially when mother nature seemed to rain down during a scene in Jurassic Park, adding to the tension. You could see the lights in other cars pop on, was a site to see.
That Drive In is special to us in this area, its a landmark full of memories and is reopening this very weekend as you all know. I wanted to share this poem i wrote for OUR Drive In Theater!!! Good Luck this season!!
Welcome Home Again
Drive up to the gate, Take me back in time,
The playground where the kids are at play
The smell of popcorn fills the air out here
As does the sound of family, friends, & life
Given to a place that is becoming whole
A little bit of paint and some new lights
Friends lending a hand where they can
To bring back something, their memory
Of a time when life was new and simple
Of a time where we came to be neighbors
Unfold your blankets and pull up a chair
The sun begins to set, more friends arrive
Friends & family underneath the stars
The starry skies framing the big screen
They come to remember themselves
A hand to hold, a first date, a first kiss
No better feeling in the chill night air
As when the first movie begins to show
Welcome home to the best memories
Escape for a while and enjoy the show…
Dedicated to the Mahoning Drive In, and all those helping bring it back again!
Thank you for the memories, the popcorn, and the stars in the sky!!
