Local students participate in HOBY

Published June 13. 2013 05:04PM

Two Tamaqua Area Senior High School students participated in the Central Pennsylvania 2013 Hugh O'Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Shippensburg University. Kyle Weaver, son of Kevin and Betsy Weaver of West Penn Township, and Ben Miller, son of Bob and Helen Miller of New Ringgold, were selected to join the 250 high school representatives from throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania.

For more than 50 years, HOBY leadership seminars have brought together select groups of high school sophomores to interact with groups of distinguished business, government and education leaders. HOBY was established by veteran actor Hugh O'Brien following an inspirational meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer in Africa. The goal, according to O'Brien, is "to seek out, recognize and develop outstanding leadership potential among our nation's youth."
