Lioness officers
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will be guided by a new set of officers beginning July 1. They are Ruth Smith, president; Nancy Beck, vice president; Gail Malocheski, secretary; Maryann Lalumia, treasurer; Mary Ann Cloos, Lion Tamer; Karoline Kormann, Tail Twister; Vera Lovewell and Georganna Wilken, historians; Yvonne Pagano, Carol Heppa, Barbe Sieg, board members.
They were installed by outgoing club President Virginia Lamendola.
Tea success
The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society held its first Victorian Tea this month and reports it was a big success. There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting will be Aug. 21 at the park building in Brodheadsville.
The society will take part in the 250th anniversary celebration of Chestnuthill Township on Sept. 7 and is looking for volunteers to help during that event in an effort to help preserve and celebrate the history of the township.
PIC competition
Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) announces that the time is here for the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award. This honor is given to a business in the township for its outstanding beautifying of its property. Previous winners had a clean, well-kept property, and also planted a host of beautiful annual flowers.
The committee reminds all that an attractive business, attracts business. PIC is thankful for its members, who join the group year after year and appreciates township residents who not only clean up in front of their properties, but also their neighborhoods.
PIC will not meet in July or August. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715.
Rotary guest
The West End Rotary Club will meet at 7:30 a.m., Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library. The speaker will be Tom Augustine from Augie's Auto Body. His topic will be: What to do if you have an accident."
PV School Board
The Pleasant Valley School Board will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Coloring contest
The Western Pocono Lioness Coloring Contest will take place this Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park, beginning at 10 a.m.
Help needed
The Monroe Career and Technical Institute started 1,000 seedlings for the Garden of Giving which will produce an abundance of nutritious produce for those in need. Already beds of green beans, carrots, onions, garlic, and raspberries are growing, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Volunteers are at the garden every weekend, so anyone who wants to learn about gardening, get some fresh air, and/or help out is more than welcome and appreciated.
The Garden of Giving is in need of volunteers to work in the garden and serve on the board, as well as donations of supplies and funding to purchase what is needed for the garden and chickens. For more information call (570) 402-1282 or email gardenofgiving@gmail.com.
Hot competition
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host a bakers' competition for its members. The First Annual Our Lady Queen of Peace Bake Off will be part of the church's festival in mid-July. Church celebrity judges will sample competitors' desserts and judge them on taste, presentation and originality.

Church volleyball
Effort UMC is one of the churches hosting summer volleyball on Wednesday and Thursday nights at the EUMC pavilion and the Cornerstone pavilion. The league has been around for about 15 years. So far this year there are 14 teams in the league.
