Published January 20. 2017 05:19AM

Two people were injured in an accident in Tamaqua on Jan. 13, caused in part by two drivers trying to beat a yellow light.

Officers were called to the intersection of Broad and Greenwood streets at 3:08 p.m. Gladys Weaver, 79, of Tamaqua, said she was driving west on Broad Street in a 2003 Dodge Neon and turned left on to Greenwood Street, striking a 2008 Volkswagen, which was being driven east on Broad by Raeanne Cormier, 51, of Summit Hill. Both women and several witnesses said the light was yellow.

Cormier, and a passenger in Weaver's car, Gladys Neff of Tamaqua, were transported by ambulance to St. Luke's Miners Campus in Coaldale.

Both cars were towed from the scene.
