Tamaqua Legion stays alive in league playoffs

Tamaqua bounced back from their 13-3 opening Schuylkill/Berks Legion playoff loss to Valley View with a 6-2 win over Pine Grove. The Blue Sox will now play Minersville in an elimination game on Friday.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Tamaqua got out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, defeating Pine Grove 6-2 to stay alive in the Schuylkill/Berks Legion playoffs.

Peter Baddick knocked in two runs on two hits, with Derek Rottet and Adam Bates each adding two hits as well. Matt Roberts helped out with two RBIs for the Blue Sox.

For Pine Grove Nick Todero and Matt Hasenauer had a hit and an RBI a piece.

10 & 11 YEAR OLD DISTRICT 18 LITTLE LEAGUE

Franklin Township-Jim Thorpe

Franklin Township edged Jim Thorpe 7-5 to stay a float in the District 18 Tournament.

Zachary Crum pitched a solid game for Franklin Twsp. striking out five. Crum also did damage from the plate as well hitting two triples. Justin Ahner chipped in with a triple, double, and a single. Lastly, Jessie Dekorte also contributed to the FT winning effort with two singles and a double.

For Jim Thorpe T.J. Garritano had a triple, while Aaron Lienhard had two singles.

9 YEAR OLD LITTLE LEAGUE

Tamaqua-Lansford

The Tamaqua Blue all stars defeated Lansford 13-0 in the opening game of the 10th annual Edward Neifert Memorial tournament.

Tamaqua opened up with seven runs in the top of the first inning with a hitting barrage. Brian Milot had three hits including a triple, Nate Wickersham had two hits with a double, Joel Shellhammer and Lucas Schickram also helped out with two hits.

Caleb Monk and Joel Shellhamer combined for 6 strikeout and the shutout in the shortened four-inning game.

Tamaqua Blue will face Tamaqua White tonight at Bill Angst Stadium in the Dutch Hill of Tamaqua at 6 p.m. tonight to see who will advance to the Winner's bracket final.
