Cowgirls & Cowboys

All week long, the McMichaels United Methodist Church is holding Vacation Bible School. The youngsters from age 3 through 7th grade are learning about Fruits of the Spirit even while in western garb.

Crafts, songs, snacks, games and fellowship are part of the 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. VBS sessions.

Effort UMC will hold its Vacation Bible School from July 30 through Aug. 3.

Lions Club speaker

Master Gardener Jenna Cook from the Monroe County Extension office will speak at the July 18 meeting of the Western Pocono Lions Club. The topic will be Native Plant Gardening. The meeting will be held at the American Legion Post in Gilbert with social time beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

Rotary program

Dr. Bryn Gillow, Brodheadsville, chiropractor from Life is Good Chiropractic, will give a presentation at the West End Rotary Club's breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 19. The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Address signs

Bernie Kozen, executive director, West End Park & Open Space Commission, says it's not too late to order one's address sign and have it up by July 31. Signs may be ordered at the Chestnuthill Park Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m.to noon, Saturday, July 21.

Seniors menu

Chestnuthill Senior Center will be offering chicken Caesar salad for lunch on Friday, July 20, and Italian hoagie on Wednesday, July 25.

AARP driver safety

An 8-hour AARP driver refresher course will be offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville on Saturday, July 21, and Saturday, July 28, beginning at 1 p.m. each day. This is the eight-hour course.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 24. That group is one of several ministries of the Brodheadsville church.

Lioness do barbecue

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet July 24 at the American Legion on Route 209 in Gilbert. There will be barbecue starting at 6 p.m., with a meeting to follow. The club will be honoring Kaitlyn Siegfried, one of its scholarship recipients.

The Western Pocono Lioness contributes to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network by accepting food donations at each monthly meeting. This is one the club's ongoing commitments

Music in the park

A free concert by Riverside Rhythm, a swing band, from 1 to 3 p.m., is part of the 17th annual Art Show & Sale at the Chestnuthill Township Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville. The event will be held on Sunday, July 29, from 12-4 p.m.

Recycling at WEF

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority will collect batteries and cell phones at the West End Fair this year, which runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Anyone who brings batteries or cell phones to the Waste Authority at the fair will receive a prize of their choice.

Said items will also be collected at the authority's site in Blakeslee every weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vehicle or alkaline batteries cannot be accepted. For more information contact Cindy Parks at (570) 643-6100.
