Northern Lehigh graduation date set
It’s only a matter of weeks until Northern Lehigh High School seniors will don their caps and gowns.
Superintendent Matt Link announced on Monday that commencement exercises are scheduled for 7 p.m. June 8 at Bulldog Stadium.
Link said that in the event of inclement weather, graduation would be moved indoors to the high school gymnasium.
The board approved the following items on Monday:
Personnel
• With regret, accepted the retirement resignations of Christine Leslie, high school science teacher, after 41 years of service, and Edward Hollenbach, maintenance worker, after 26 years of service, both effective June 30. Superintendent Matt Link recognized both retirees and lauded them for their service.
• With regret, accepted the resignation of Jennifer Jones from her position as districtwide licensed health room attendant, effective the end of the business day, June 1.
• Approved the administrative transfers of Scott Hankee from first shift custodian to first shift maintenance position, at a salary of $27.12 an hour, effective April 16; William Marks, from second shift custodian to first shift maintenance position, at a salary of $15.52 an hour, effective on or about May 29; and Jennifer Wentz, from second shift custodian to first shift custodian, at no change in salary, effective May 15.
• Approved the appointment of Tina Erkinger as administrative secretary to the Director of Support Services, at a salary of $30,000, effective on or about May 21.
• Approved the appointment of Shelly Smith as clerk/typist high school guidance, at a salary of $28,000 prorated, effective on or about May 30.
Policy
• Approved the final club/activity application for the Northern Lehigh Reading Olympics Club. The club has enjoyed success in its first year and will be adding age groups next year. The Northern Lehigh Education Association recommended stipend for the adviser of this club is $481 beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The approved stipend will be added to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Granted the high school National Honor Society permission to attend the National Historic Sites, Philadelphia, May 16. The trip is fully funded by the National Honor Society students.
Conferences
• Granted Sara Shimer, Anthony Tulio and Regina Wehr permission to attend the Eureka Great Minds Institute, Aug. 1-3, in New York City, with the cost of registration for each at $600; lodging, $300; travel, $60; and meals, $105; for a total cost of about $1,065 for each, to be funded from the Slatington Elementary Professional Development budget.
New business
• Approved the land lease agreement with Verizon Wireless to install, maintain and operate communications equipment at Bulldog Stadium.
• Approved an additional memorandum of understanding with the Northern Lehigh Educational Support Personnel Association, effective June 11, 2018, with regard to the four-day workweek for the summer of 2018.
Legal
• Appointed King Spry Herman Freund & Faul LLC as special counsel for the 2018-19 school year for services. The hourly rate will be $185 per hour for partners and associates, and $95 per hour for paralegals.
