The Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority has received funding to continue beautification efforts by the Slatington Trailhead.

Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority received a Main Street Lehigh Valley Grant from the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce in the amount of $2,000.

The grant is for a Welcome Center beautification project, according to Lindsay Taylor, executive director of the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority.

“The Main Street Lehigh Valley grant award was to continue beautification efforts at the new patio located between the Slatington Trailhead’s Welcome Center and the restrooms,” Taylor said. “A new picnic table has been ordered and will be placed there, along with a large planter box. A split rail fence will also be installed at the back edge of the patio with landscaping, and remaining funds will help offset the cost of additional netting in the rafters to deter pigeons.”

Taylor said she greatly appreciates the funding.

“I am very happy about the grant because it will allow us to continue our efforts to make the trailhead not only a place for cyclists and hikers along the D&L or Slate Heritage Trail to stop for a rest, but a true community gathering space and park,” she said.
