Notre Dame club raises funds for firefighters

    The Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County recently presented a check for $1,700 to the Diligence Fire Company No. 1, Summit Hill, representing $1,455 in proceeds from a T-shirt sale it held in conjunction with the club’s annual tailgate party held Nov. 2 at the Batter’s Box, Summit Hill, and a $245 donation from Dan Matika of the host business. Participating in the presentation were, front, from left, club members Rich Gould, Bobby O’Gurek and Jeff Szczecina, and back, firefighters John Poko Jr., captain; Shawn Hoben, fire chief; and Larry Black, captain and president of the relief association; and club members Tatum O’Brien, who chairs the T-shirt sale program; and Joe “Fuzzy” O’Donnell. The club raised $850 in its 2018 tailgate party, and $1,300 last year, with this year’s donation making it a total of $3,850 that it donated to the fire company. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
