Officer on leave after shooting death in LV

Published July 30. 2018 05:34AM

ALLENTOWN (AP) — Authorities say a police officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation of the shooting death of a man witnesses said was damaging cars and interfering with traffic near an eastern Pennsylvania amusement park.

Chief Glen Dorney of South Whitehall police said the move is in accordance with protocol during such an investigation, which is being done by state police and the Lehigh County district attorney's office.

Witnesses said the man had broken the window of one vehicle and done other damage in South Whitehall Township on Saturday evening. An officer confronted him and later opened fire, hitting him at least once.

District Attorney Jim Martin told lehighvalleylive.com that the man "was behaving, what I would characterize as, bizarrely" in several encounters. The county coroner hasn't identified him.

We were handed detour directions as we left Dorney park that night, as the area was all closed off, police everywhere. My guess is this guy was one of the vagrants Dorney bussed in. The park looked like a third world country Saturday and it was impossible to enjoy any of it. I wrote an email to Mike Fehnal, the Gen Mngr. They definitely exceeded the capacity limit and every NJ/Nyker was busy cutting lines being rude, and acting like animals, and I can say it, Im from Jersey but have lived here 15 yrs. It was a damned free for all. This guy was probably bussed in with the rest of them. Dorney was practically giving the tickets away that day. I demanded and GOT a refund for my entire day, thats how bad this was
