Old bridge a throwback to railroad glory
An abandoned railroad bridge creates a bucolic scene along Lime Kiln Road in West Penn Township, seen here recently. The 1890s stone arch bridge is situated on what was part of the right of way of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, Pottsville Branch, running from Lizard Creek Junction to west of Pottsville. The Lehigh Valley railroad dates back to 1846 and was used to haul anthracite coal.
