Pa. moves to raise cigarettes, tobacco age to 21

Published November 22. 2019 05:40AM

HARRISBURG (AP) — Pennsylvania is moving to join 18 other states and ban the purchase of cigarettes and other tobacco products by people under 21, although it’s maintaining an exception for military veterans or service members who are at least 18.

Gov. Tom Wolf’s office said he’d sign legislation that passed both chambers of the state Legislature on Thursday.

Under it, the legal age to buy tobacco products will rise from 18 to 21 in Pennsylvania, unless a person meets the military service exception. The higher age takes effect next July 1.

Tobacco products include electronic cigarettes and natural and synthetic nicotine products.

The American Lung Association says 50% of the United States’ population already lives in a state or community that has passed a law raising the age to buy tobacco products to 21.

Total waste of time for the PA General Assembly. If kids want to smoke they will.
Isn't it ironic that some lib's, want to legalize recreational pot?
Social experiments by these progressives never end up serving the society, as a whole, in positive ways.
What does Trump have to do with a PA Bill?
You twist and bend anything, in all ways, just to "Take On".
Put em up!
You crack me up Joe
The truth Mike....is that the people all over the state of PA were questioned about their thoughts on legalization. The majority are in favor of it. Again, you like to spin your BS.
The only reason they want to legalize pot is for the tax money Period!!!! Medical marijuana I’m totally ok with but as far as recreational I don’t think so. We have enough wack jobs running around here & killings all over. Just out to Denver & look at all the stoners hanging around. We were out there hunting a few years ago & spent a day out in Denver I couldn’t believe it how many stoned people during the day.
Country Girl, was the whole state surveyed??? If you survey only certain areas you will get swayed results one way or the other depending on where you are at. I agree with model 88 rules. It should not be recreational. However it should just be a fine. No jail time with small possession.
M88, Was in Gunnison this fall. I try to get out there every year. If you think it was bad a few years ago you should see it now. It IS the business. The local businesses and a Sheriff deputy said they can't get anybody to work except when Western Colorado State University starts then some of the college kids fill the voids.

There's also a lot of disposable income out there in the ski towns so factor that in too. It's just different.
