Palmerton Girl Scouts donate cookies to veterans
Members of Girl Scout Troop 3305 of Palmerton worked hard this cookie season selling the beloved Girl Scout Cookies and collecting donations (monetary and boxes of cookies) for the Girl Scouts Hometown Heroes program.
“The Troop chose two ‘hero’ organizations to receive donated cookies; Palmerton’s United Veterans Organization and Carbon County Communication Center,” said Jodi Smale, leader of Girl Scout Troop 3305.
“As a result of donations through the Hometown Heroes program and the girls choosing to purchase their remaining cookie inventory with their sales profits, they were able to donate a total of nearly 50 boxes of cookies to these organizations.”
Troop 3305 consists of both Brownie and Daisy Scouts, all of whom had the opportunity to learn philanthropy and community service through the cookie program. The troop is led by Smale and Brittany Mazepa.
Through individual and booth sales, the 14 girls sold more than 4,155 boxes of cookies.
“My favorite part of the cookie sale was delivering cookies to people,” said Brownie Calianna Smale, who was also the Troop’s top cookie seller with more than 1,000 boxes sold. Both Calianna and first-year Daisy, McKenna Freeby, said they are thankful to everyone who donated to Hometown Heroes.
Second-year Daisy Scout Harper Hahn was also excited about this year’s program. “It’s important to help people, especially those who help us,” Hahn said.
At a recent Troop ceremony, the girls welcomed Joe Uhnak, representing Palmerton United Veterans Organization, and Ray Bossard, representing Carbon County Communication Center.
They presented them both with their cookie donations in front of family and friends who had gathered together.
Uhnak and Bossard expressed their appreciation for the Troop’s donations, but even more so, were grateful for the girls’ generosity, thoughtfulness, and commitment to our community.
The girls of Troop 3305 will also be able to enjoy many activities and trips as a result of their annual cookie sale fundraiser.
