Palmerton man charged with indecent assault
A Palmerton man faces charges for the indecent assault of a child.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Detective Kevin Buck of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:
On June 18, Buck received a Childline report about Paul Kunkle, 69, inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl.
During a Child Advocacy Center interview, the victim said Kunkle, had touched her private area twice.
The victim’s parents told police that Kunkle had always been buying the victim things, such as a new laptop computer.
On June 20, Kunkle came to the borough police department with his son to speak with Buck in reference to the incident
Buck asked Kunkle if he understood the allegations made against him, and he initially stated he did not know why he was there, but his son said that Kunkle was aware of it. Kunkle denied any involvement.
Kunkle said in the beginning of the interview that he was not too familiar with the victim, as he didn’t bother with her much. By the end of the interview, Kunkle claimed he would have done anything for that girl.
He is charged with two counts of indecent assault, and one count of corruption of minors, and is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
Kunkle is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
