Palmerton man killed walking along the road

A Palmerton man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night as he walked along a Lehigh County road.

The Lehigh County coroner’s office identified the victim as Scott T. White, 37. He was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m. in the 1700 block of Mauch Chunk Road, in South Whitehall Township.

According to a report from township police, they are looking for the driver of a newer model Toyota Highlander, 2014-2017, sports utility vehicle. It should have damage to the front grille, bumper and possibly the hood.

Coroner Scott Grim said an autopsy was scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw a pedestrian walking along Mauch Chunk Road in the area mentioned, or saw the vehicle in question to call them at 610-398-0337.

Police said more information concerning the incident will be released at a later date.
