Library Board of Directors
The Palmerton Area Library Board of Directors will meet at 4 p.m. March 18. Meetings are open to the public.
New Book Club
A new book club, The Shared Shelf, is about sharing your current and all-time favorite books. Something that challenged your thinking, introduced you to a new author, or a book you think other people should know about. If you have a copy of the book, please bring it. The Shared Shelf will meet the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Marian Hoffner will facilitate. The first meeting is March 17. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship service and Sunday school at 10:15 a.m. on March 15. Adult Sunday school is at 9 a.m.
Lenten Service at 7 p.m. on March 18 will be at Holy Trinity. Holy Trinity is sharing services and alternating weeks with St. Matthew’s. Each week will share evening prayer followed by a brief time of fellowship and refreshment.
Bible study opportunities are Mondays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at St. Matthew’s and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Adult Education Room of Holy Trinity.
The Thrift Shop at Holy Trinity is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from noon to 3:30 p.m.
Soup and sandwich
A free community soup and sandwich dinner will be held at Salem UMC, 4145 Forest Inn Road in Aquashicola from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday. Join together for fellowship and enjoy a warm dish of tomato soup or homemade chicken noodle soup and a toasted cheese sandwich.
Breakfast
An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon March 15 at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Menu items include eggs to order, potatoes, pancakes, hash, ham, bacon, sausage, SOS, toast, cereal, OJ, milk, coffee and tea.
Lenten services
Five area churches join together for Wednesday evening Lenten Services. St. Matthew’s UCC, Jerusalem UCC, Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and Salem UCC Gilbert will hold joint service on March 18, at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, in Trachsville. The preacher will be the Rev. Randy Lentz, and following the theme Signs of Lent, the message will be Yield.
A simple soup supper will be held from 6-6:45 p.m. Worship service begins at 7 p.m. Choir rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. Choir members from all churches are invited to attend rehearsal and sing each week.
Filling Sale
Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, in Trachsville is taking orders for filling. They are taking orders until March 22. Call 610-377-4936 or the church office at 610-681-4412 for cost and information. Pickup is March 29 and April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Basket Social
Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold its annual spring basket social from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Will have theme baskets, a raffle, refreshments, soups by the quart, bake sale, chow chow, apple butter and homemade candy. Three baskets will have $25 hidden inside. Come for lunch and try your luck. Drawing starts at 2 p.m.
Bake sale
Sacred Heart Church, Third and Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, is holding a bake sale on March 21 and 22. The kitchen will also be open for hot foods to eat in or take out from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
