Palmerton presents ‘The Sound of Music’
Palmerton Area High School’s drama club presents “The Sound of Music” this weekend at the high school. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
“We hope that the students have gained an appreciation for how important it is that people look out for each other and work together,” said Brent Harris, drama club advisor.
“This theme runs through both the story itself and through the production process. In ‘The Sound of Music,’ Maria, the Children, and Captain Von Trapp all find that they must rely on each other in challenging times,” said Harris.
“Throughout our production, we hope that the students have seen that this is true for them as well. Both cast and crew have worked hard as a team to make sure that everyone is ready for the show.
“Hopefully, this lesson carries beyond the walls of our auditorium and into the lives of our students.”
Cast members include Kelly Heinick (Maria), Krystal Salter (Mother Abess), Senia Smith (Sister Berthe), Priya Baldassano (Sister Margharetta), Faith Szena (Sister Sophia), Sean Hall (Captain von Trapp), Justin Marsteller (Franz) and Mikayla Wilkins (Frau Schmidt).
Also, Katie Rehatchek (Liesl von Trapp), Mitchell Hourt (Friedrich von Trapp), Molly Campbell (Louisa von Trapp), Alex Cornmesser (Kurt von Trapp), Carly Schwenger (Brigitta von Trapp), Hannah Serfass (Marta von Trapp), Isabella Lamparelli (Gretl von Trapp), Matthew Binder (Rolf), Sydney Geist (Frau Schraeder), Zeke Himmelwright (Max Detweiler), Samantha Perloni (Frau Zeller), Braden Gower (Herr Zeller), Brayden Kline (Baron Elberfeld), Grace Heist (Baroness Elberfeld), Cody Green (Admiral Von Schriber), and Gina Laviolette (New Postulant).
“It’s a timeless classic with a story and music that are as memorable today as they were when they were written. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in this production,” Harris said.
“We can only hope that we do justice to a show that has been loved by so many for such a long time. We knew that we were taking on a large responsibility when we selected the show last year. Hopefully, the audience feels that we have lived up to the task.”
During intermission, the school store will sell snacks, refreshments, show posters and apparel. Proceeds from these sales will be used for next year’s drama club productions.
