Palmerton School Board

Palmerton’s Board of Education passed a motion on Tuesday, adopting the 2018-19 Act 1 Resolution, which states that the district will not increase taxes by more than its index of 3.2 percent.

The school board also acted on the following items during its monthly meeting.

Personnel

• Ryan Kish was approved to attend the annual PASBO Conference in Hershey from March 6-9, with a cost not to exceed $950.

• The board accepted the resignation of lead custodian Ray Saxe, effective Dec. 4.

• Beck Adams was approved as a cafe substitute, effective Dec. 13.

• Vicki McHugh was approved as a mentor for Racquel Esposito, incoming high school guidance counselor.

• Jessica Steirer was approved as a substitute teacher, effective Dec. 13.

Other business

• A proposal for solicitor services from Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams was accepted by the board, with a fee agreement of $165 an hour for lawyer fees, $125 an hour for legal assistant fees, and $195 an hour for nonroutine matters. The proposal is effective July 1, 2018, and will be paid for mostly through the general fund.

• An agreement with Around the Clock Nursing was approved for nursing services as needed, effective Nov. 21, 2017.

• Fund donations amounting to $1,065 from the S.S. Palmer Elementary PTO toward the partial purchase of yearbooks by the S.S. Palmer Yearbook Activity Fund were accepted.

• A license agreement between the Palmerton Area Drama Club and MT Pit for the recording in a live stage performance of “The Sound of Music” was approved at a fee of $650.
