Palmerton teen gets jail time for theft

A Palmerton teen was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday on a retail theft charge.

Zachary John Bartenope, 18, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve one to 12 months in prison on the charge. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

He was arrested by Mahoning Township police on June 15 at the Walmart store where he stole $84.42 worth of merchandise, which was recovered.

Bartenope is currently an inmate in the county prison on another matter. His jail term began immediately.
