Panther Valley Elementary students got an entertaining lesson about being safe around electricity recently.

Actors from the National Theatre for Children performed “Safety Detectives in Hot Pursuit,” a play about electric safety, sponsored by PPL.

The electric utility is using the play to try to reach 100,000 students in their service territory. Over the past two years, they estimate they’ve reached about 27,000 students, according to Carol Obando-Derstine, regional affairs coordinator for PPL.

“We’re focused on safety. Safety is a top priority for us, not just our employees but our customers,” she said. “These shows bring the messages home in a kid-friendly way.”

Students laughed, yelled and cheered for the actors from National Theatre for Children.

In the meantime they learned about safety when it comes to space heaters, electricity and water, and potential electrical fires.

“They are pros at putting together very high-impact, kid-friendly shows,” Obando-Derstine said.
