Parade planned in Weissport
During Monday’s council meeting in Weissport, a presentation was made by Keith “Jake” Boyer regarding a parade that is being planned.
Boyer explained to the council that the “Weissport Proud” committee is planning a parade at 1 p.m. May 18 to commemorate Armed Forces Day and to welcome state Rep. Doyle Heffley to the borough.
The parade will feature military groups, Scout groups, civic organizations and the Lehighton Area High School marching band. Speakers will be on hand to talk about the history of Weissport after the parade and refreshments will be available in the park.
Boyer told council, “I think it’s a good positive thing we can have happening here in Weissport.”
Boyer said he wants to get the youth of Weissport involved in the parade as well.
Council was in unanimous agreement to allow the parade.
Mayor Paulette Watson must approve the use of the park, but she was not in attendance at the meeting.
A rain date for the parade is set for May 19, and more details will be announced closer to the event.
