Penn Forest plans for movies in the park

Penn Forest Township is buying equipment to show movies in the park for families.

The township supervisors voted 4-0 Monday night to let the township’s park advisory board spend up to $2,000 to purchase the gear needed to have movie nights.

Park advisory board members said the proposal would involve an inflatable screen, projector, speakers and related equipment.

They said the movies will be a way to further get families involved at the park, and the supervisors agreed.

“It’s nice to get the community involved. We have a great park. If we can use it for another function, that’s a great idea,” Supervisor Roger Meckes said.

Park advisory board members said they hope to plan events along with the Boy Scouts. And the speaker would be available for any park events where a public address system is needed.

The supervisors also heard a request from Penn Forest Township Fire Co. No. 2 for a new tanker truck.

The tanker is used to respond to fires in areas which do not have fire hydrants.

Chief Dave Vukovic said the current truck, which holds 3,500 gallons, is 22 years old and has been repaired several times.

He said some days there are no leaks, but other days hundreds of gallons of water have been lost.

Vukovic wanted to see if funding was available before soliciting quotes. The supervisors asked if they had looked into grants, or used equipment. Vukovic said they do not qualify for grants.

The supervisors asked Vukovic to get prices for a new truck so they can consider the proposal.
