PennDOT seeks public input on highway safety through online survey

Published July 23. 2019 04:07PM

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking motorists’ input on traffic safety and driving behaviors through its annual online Highway Safety Survey found at www.PennDOT.gov/Safety.

PennDOT will use the feedback from this annual survey to better understand the attitude and actions of the public concerning a variety of driving behaviors.

“Safety remains our top priority and we are grateful for the public’s continued engagement in making our roadways safer,” said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards. “The results from this annual survey help us gauge participants’ attitudes on highway safety and allow us to adjust our safety activities as we work to reduce crashes and fatalities.”

The survey is available on PennDOT’s website through Aug. 12 and should take about five minutes to complete. All responses, including the “comments” fields, are anonymous.

More than 6,000 people responded to last year’s survey. Notably, nearly 91 percent of respondents said they always wear a seat belt and 88 percent of respondents said they never drive while impaired. When asked how often they use a hands-free option to make or take phone calls while driving, 67 percent of respondents say they either always use hands-free device or never make or take phone calls while driving.

PennDOT just yesterday announced huge budget cuts for highway projects across the state in the next 10 years. This will greatly impact safety. Does the survey address THIS?
Do something about unsafe drivers. Get them off the highway. It's people who make travel unsafe, not highways.
They should do something about the aggressive truckers i.e. GARY GRAY TRUCKING. On both 80 and 78 you take your life in your hands driving next to one of them
Absolutely Maiseygurl. I could mention another Co. but will refrain. And in addition, the speed demons from the trucks with N.J. license plates that traveled into Palmerton to the old Zinc property!! I almost got killed a couple of times by 18 wheelers not following YIELD signs on 78 and 33 when I had no lane to go to (full traffic). Many think they own the road and they do by the mere fact of their size, so stay out of there way as much as possible. Do they even do back ground checks on their driving records prior to training.
