Planner: Palmerton lot didn’t follow plans
The parking lot for a building renovation project in Palmerton was not constructed to plans, officials say.
Last week, the Carbon County Planning Commission reviewed the Bennett Family Properties parking lot layout plan and existing parking lot for accuracy.
A site inspection was completed on Sept. 12 and several deficiencies were noted, including previous parking space markings still visible.
Ivan O. Meixell, county planner, outlined his findings.
He said that “the plans, as submitted, lack zoning design requirements of the Palmerton Borough zoning ordinances.”
Issues included a required stop sign at an intersection not shown, one parking area at the rear of the site being located within the required buffer zone and no verification submitted that the proposed handicapped parking area meets federal ADA requirements.
He recommended that the board not make any formal recommendation, but rather submit the comments to Palmerton and the engineer to be included with further discussions.
