Pleasant Valley discovers mold in several buildings

Published August 23. 2018 11:42AM

Pleasant Valley School District is taking action after mold was discovered in several locations throughout the district.

According to a message sent out by the district Wednesday morning, “the administration has developed a plan to remediate the issue and ensure the air quality is safe for all.

“Although the mold is contained to a few areas, the PV staff is working in conjunction with remediation professionals to rectify the situation.”

The discovery led to the cancellation of the Find Your Classroom event at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School today.

In addition, the intermediate school, which houses fourth, fifth and sixth grades, will remain closed for the rest of the week, an update read last night. The other Pleasant Valley schools are still open for their regularly scheduled activities.

School officials said in the statement that the decision on whether or not to open for the school year on Monday as scheduled will be contingent upon air quality testing results.

The district will continue to update parents on its website.

Additional information may also be available following this evening’s board of education meeting.

In another school district matter, the Pleasant Valley High School scheduled counseling services today and Friday for any student or member of the staff needing counseling or support following the unexpected passing of faculty member and soccer coach Chris Pachuta.

“Our district counselors, RedCo and/or IU 20 flight team counselors, will be available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Valley High School Guidance Office during this time,” a statement on the school district website read. “We will continue to provide ongoing support next week at our schools to support our students, faculty and staff.”
